Premessa: qualche giorno fa mio figlio mi ha chiesto “mandami 10/20 titoli che per te sono fondamentali che li ascolto con calma e poi ti dico cosa ne penso”. Una simile sfida non poteva essere lasciata in attesa ed ecco una lista minima tratta dai miei circa 3000 LP che ho collezionato in tanti anni di passione, anche se debbo dolermi del fatto che io ho sempre solo ascoltato la musica, magari leggendo poi i testi, ma a causa della mia triste ignoranza (a scuola ho studiato Francese, l’Inglese l’ho imparato in un mese per passare dall’istituto tecnico al liceo…) non sono mai riuscito a comprendere i testi ascoltando i pezzi, cosa che fortunatamente mio figlio invece sa fare…

Musica -8- in "L’arte della verberazione" 24/03/2021

Riprendo dopo più di tre anni a raccontare i miei gusti musicali nel rock USA, che è a mio parere l’espressione musicale moderna più importante (e diffusa). Come sappiamo la prima scossa l’hanno data i quattro (o cinque allora…) di Liverpool, che è servita a movimentare l’ambiente, ma a mio parere è assolutamente secondaria, pur molto interessante, alla rivelazione dei Rolling Stones, ensemble unico, con alle spalle una conoscenza ed una lunga esperienza nel suonare blues nelle blues band inglesi. Da loro nasce il rock moderno, dopo quello Usa di Elvis e soci, anche questo figlio di esperienze traslate dal blues e dal country, che a sua volta deriva dal traditional irlandese, polacco, russo, per merito dell’irripetibile melting pot popolare USA. Il tutto nasce negli anni ’60.

Farò un post dedicato completamente ai Rolling, ed uno alla British Invasion ma prima vorrei raccogliere le testimonianze a mio parere più significative sul fronte USA del suono più innovativo e psichedelico da una parte, e da quello garage/hard che darà luogo al punk americano, alla new wave fino ad oggi. Il tutto suddiviso in decadi, ’60,’70, ’80 quando poi tutto si è fuso in un indistinto pop, sia pure con pregevoli eccezioni. Cominciamo dai ’60:

Scenderò quindi più in profondità su alcuni di quei complessi psichedelici quasi completamente sconosciuti, e quelli garage che sono i prodromi del futuro punk, i cui vinili sono stati territorio di caccia dei collezionisti e che sono stati tramandati da raccolte come Nuggets, ma soprattutto Back from the Grave, i cui riferimenti trovate in Musica 6.

Cominciamo dai pezzi più conosciuti e indimenticabili delle bands psichedeliche o folli degli anni ’60 che partono sempre dalla tradizione country o blues americana, anche dei ritmi degli anni 20/30, alcuni sono stati usati con successo nelle colonne sonore di molti film diventati famosi come Zabriskie Point o Easy Rider:
